The remarkable surroundings of the Centre Pompidou are where you can find an exhibition dedicated to the work of the father of photojournalism, Henri Cartier-Bresson, until June 9th. Around 500 photographs, paintings, drawings, films and other documents illuminate the life and achievements of this remarkable chronicler of the 20th century. Covered are fascinating subjects from that time such as the Spanish Civil War, Cold War, the Surrealists, Gandhi’s funeral and decolonisation.
The grandeur of the Grand Palais National Galleries is the setting for two exhibitions which should not be missed by anyone with an interest in American cutting edge art. The video and installation artist Bill Viola is featured until July 21st, and photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who chronicled the more unorthodox sides of American life in his often controversial work, is the subject of a show running until June 15th.
