Satisfy Your appetite at the Festival of Gastronomy

Publish on Wednesday, 27 August 2014 dans Flavours and gastronomy

First celebrated in 2011, the Festival of Gastronomy takes place throughout France. The French culinary tradition has been recognized as a ‘world intangible heritage’ by Unesco, so it is only fitting that such a national source of pride should receive its own festival. An initiative of the Ministry of Crafts, Trade and Tourism, the Fête de la Gastronomie takes place from September 26th to 28th, a cornucopia of celebratory cuisine.

A Festival and a fine Farmer’s Market on the lawn

Created to uphold values of generosity and sharing and to invite the nation to discover anew the superb gastronomic heritage of France, the Fête de la Gastronomie has become immensely popular. In Paris, the culinary capital of the world, some 2,000 events have been scheduled. There will be food and wine tastings throughout the city, plus classes and workshops aplenty. Chefs head out on the streets with ingredients and recipes and offer their professional know-how, as well as their fabulous dishes, to the public. Special deals are available in restaurants and you can learn from the experts regarding such matters as the most appropriate wine to pair with various foods.

As part of the celebrations, there will be a wonderful supply of fresh produce of exceptional quality and local origin on offer on the lawn at Bercy, a lovely location where a Farmer’s Market will take place. In a friendly and convivial atmosphere there will be a chance to sample a whole range of locally sourced foodstuffs. Farmers of the Ile de France region will present their originality, their integrity and commitment, the fruits of organic agriculture and the reflections of their terroir. This takes place just over a couple of miles from the Grand Hotel du Bel Air, and is easy to get to. We certainly recommend this particular event and, of course, the entire Fête de la Gastronomie.

A world of interest in Paris Design Week

France has established her own creative design identity. Thus it is only natural that Paris has opened up an ongoing dialogue with the rest of the world dealing with this aspect of creativity. It’s called Paris Design Week and it runs from September 6th to the 13th. Events connected to this overarching theme take place in venues all over the city, so it’s a good idea to find centrally located accommodation. The Grand Hotel du Bel Air provides just that, and we can also help and advise you regarding how to find these events happening in various places emblematic of the creative energy of Paris.
