Imagination and Magic at a Fairground Arts Museum

Publish on Friday, 12 December 2014 dans Entertainment

The Fairground Arts Museum at the Pavillons de Percy is the setting for an annual event that evokes wonder, sparks the imagination and brings back the magical atmosphere of childhood. This is the Festival du Merveilleux, and it takes place from December 26th to January 4th. Fun for the entire family is guaranteed at this enchanting event that will add to the joy of this special time of year.

The Festival du Merveilleux is a feast for the senses

The Musée des Arts Forains was created by the actor and antiques dealer Jean-Paul Favand and draws on his private collection amassed over the course of 35 years. Opened to the public in 1996 it includes an astonishing selection of fairground, sideshow and music hall artefacts dating between 1850 and 1950. Here you can see carousels, merry-go-rounds and other fairground rides, a Parisian waiter race, automata, puppets, magic lantern shows, musical instruments including a Hooghuys organ, optical illusions and the grand vizier Ali Pasha. All have been carefully restored to their former glory by the museum’s talented team.

Each year the Festival du Merveilleux takes place here. During this time the public is invited to participate in the games, try out the rides and be entertained by acrobats, storytellers and mimes.

There’s a variety of shows performed every thirty minutes, and it’s wonderful fun for all ages. The experience is enhanced by state of the art audiovisual presentations that help to push the boundaries of imagination, bringing together the charm of the past and the technology of today in the Theatre of the Wonderful.
